What's holding you back?

Let's be honest, there is always an excuse. We are good at rationalizing why we don't do certain things. This is apparent when it comes to our own development, especially when we have a job we love and want to be exceptional at.
People ask all the time, what do I need to do development wise to forward my career? And we come up with a long list of things to do, but a majority of the time, I hear - I don't have time to do these things. When we dig and ask why there isn't time, we get lots of excuses - yes they are excuses. They range from there is too much work to do to I don't have the resources to I am just too tired.
I've used those excuses - ALL of them - at some point in my life. But recently I realized, the only thing holding me back is my own inhibitions. I have to make my own development a priority. I have to make the time. I have to learn to say no. I talked with my supervisor with the ideas of what I wanted to focus on and was met with great support. I was allowed to prioritize my own development in order to better serve my customers.
So, what's holding you back? I encourage you to look at your situation and be honest on what is holding you back. I can guarantee, you are at least partly holding yourself back. Take control of your development! Own your development and go after what you want! Make a plan and make it happen!
